I have found it interesting the way folks in the Humanities bandy about the term "Digital Humanities." As some of you who have been in my classes know, there is a specific way people working in the Digital Humanities think about their field and it is not always in sync with the way folks who do not practice in the field think and talk about it.
So, to clarify, here is "The Digital Humanities Manifesto 2.0" that generated from The UCLA Mellon Seminar in Digital Humanities. As the HASTAC website reports, "It is the product of nine seminars held at UCLA over the past year. The seminars were co-taught by Jeffrey Schnapp (Stanford) and Todd Presner (UCLA), with special sessions on visualization (Diane Favro and Chris Johanson), cultural analytics (Lev Manovich), authoring environments (Johanna Drucker), new media publication (Tara McPherson), virtual worlds (Jeffrey Schnapp and Lynn Hershmann), information triage (Peter Lunenfeld), Mobile Media (Scott Ruston, Ricardo Dominquez and Amy Carrol), and a DH symposium (keynoted by Kate Hayles)."

The point I would like to make is that to claim a department has a DH focus means that it should pay attention to the way the field is developing and make an attempt to both follow and lead. It is a tall order, I admit, but the excitement of being part of the digital media revolution is, as we would say in Texas, staying on the horse.
